Wei Gao
Professor, Cheif physician
HNC Multi-omics Lab
Professor Wei Gao received Medical Doctor Degree (M.D.) from Shanxi medical university, Taiyuan, China. From December 2013 to April 2021, he served as the director of the Shanxi Key Laboratory of Otolaryngology Head & Neck Cancer and Shanxi Province Clinical Medical Research Center for Precision Medicine of Head and Neck Cancer, Taiyuan, Shanxi, China. From May 2021, he has been serving as professor in Clinical Medical Academy & General Hospital affiliated with Shenzhen University. In 2019, he completed a senior visiting fellowship at The Newcastle University (UON) in Australia. As a principle investigator, he led the research group focused on the discovery and clinical transformation of biomarkers in head and neck cancers by means of omics technology. He mapped the regulation network profiles of lncRNA-miRNA-mRNA in metastatic and non-metastatic laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma (LSCC) which is provided an important theoretical data basis for the diagnosis and prognosis in LSCC. Mechanistically, he found many non-coding RNAs played significantly effects as tumor suppressor gene or oncogenic gene in LSCC, and their biological functions were mainly realized by inhibiting the EMT process of tumor cells, which further explained the mechanism of the occurrence, development, invasion and metastasis of LSCC in sight of epigenetics, especially in non-coding RNA.
