Our research interests focus on advances of applications of microalgae, especially in Waste treatment for Energy production. We focus on carbon capture and nitrogen utilization using microalgae. Besides that, we are also interested in bio-removal of heavy metal and rare earth elements using both suspended and attached cultivation of microalgae to avoid the high energy cost of algae harvesting and dewatering. Finally, we are trying to utilize algal biomass for biofuel production, food additives, and functional materials, especially in ionic liquids catalyzed in-situ transesterification of wet algae, homogeneous/heterogeneous catalysts catalyzed hydrothermal liquefaction of microalgae for bio-oil production.
