个人简介

Dr. Jodi Segal is a professor of medicine at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. She has joint appointments in health policy and management, and epidemiology at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. Dr. Segal is internationally recognized as a clinician-investigator in comparative effectiveness research and pharmacoepidemiology. She serves as the associate director of the Center for Health Services and Outcomes Research (CHSOR) and the co-director of the Center for Drug Safety and Effectiveness (CDSE), both in the School of Public Health. Additionally, she’s the director of the Pharmacoepidemiology Program. Dr. Segal received a B.S. from The Pennsylvania State University. She earned her M.D. from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and her M.P.H. from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. She completed her residency at the University of Chicago and performed a fellowship in internal medicine at Johns Hopkins. Her research interests include pharmacoepidemiology, comparative effectiveness research and evidence-based medicine. Dr. Segal and her team have been tapped by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to conduct research to find out why physicians opt to prescribe costlier brand-name drugs when generic ones are available. She is on the Fellowship Advisory Committee at Johns Hopkins. She serves as the principal investigator of the Primary Care and Health Services Research Training Program. She is a member of Phi Beta Kappa and Alpha Omega Alpha.

研究领域

Comparative effectiveness research; Pharmacoepidemiology; Evidence synthesis; High-value healthcare

Dr. Segal’s research interests include developing methodology to use observational data to understand the use of new drugs, particularly drugs for treatment of diabetes, blood disorders and osteoporosis. She is an experienced clinical epidemiologist and health services researcher with skills in applying advanced methods for evidence-based review and meta-analysis, and in collaboration with her colleagues in biostatistics, has developed new methodologies for observational research (using propensity scores to adjust for covariates which change over time) and methods to account for competing risks and heterogeneity of treatment effects in analyses.
