个人简介

Dr. Cynthia A. James is an assistant professor of medicine (Cardiology) and certified genetic counselor at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. Her research focuses on cardiovascular genetic counseling and arrhythmogenic cardiomyopathies. Her team is currently engaged in investigating the interplay of genotype and lifestyle on penetrance and course of ARVD/C as well as improving early detection and risk stratification in ARVD/C. Further research includes psychosocial adaptation to inherited heart disease and informing genetics / genomics policy through studying the experiences of families. She works in partnership with investigators from Cardiology, the Institute of Genetic Medicine, and the Berman Institute of Bioethics. Dr. James received her undergraduate degree in biology from Cornell University in Ithaca, NY. She earned her Sc.M. in Genetic Counseling at Johns Hopkins School of Public Health and her Ph.D. in Human Genetics at Johns Hopkins University. Dr. James joined the Johns Hopkins faculty in 2013 after a decade as a practicing genetic counselor in the Johns Hopkins ARVD/C program. Dr. James has been published extensively, and her work has been recognized most recently with the National Society of Genetic Counselors Jane Engelberg Memorial Fellowship Grant, the JEMF Travel Award, and Cardiac SIG Travel Award. She is a supervisor with the Johns Hopkins / National Institutes of Health Genetic Counseling Training Program and has had the joy of mentoring numerous research projects.
