Graduated with honors from Baylor College of Medicine in 1978, Internship and Residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Alabama Teaching Hospitals (1979 - 1981), Masters of Business Administration from the Johns Hopkins Carey Business School in 2007. Private practice of Internal Medicine in Columbia, SC until joining faculty in the Division of Geriatric Medicine and Gerontology in 1995. Clinical concentration on caring for older adults with complex health needs in the office and hospital settings. Academic concentration on teaching, program development in education and clinical care. Roles in the Division included Fellowship Program Director (2003 - 2006), Clinical Director and Director of Education (2004 - 2008), Interim Director of the Division (2008 - 2009) and Director, Division of Geriatric Medicine and Gerontology to present.
