个人简介

B.S. - Microbiology, The University of Iowa; B.A. - Biology, The University of Iowa; Ph.D. - Biomedical Sciences, SUNY Albany Dr. Hare is a microbiologist whose main areas of scientific expertise are in bacteriology and molecular biology. She conducts research in the regulation and evolution of bacterial pathogenicity, and the genetic responses of bacteria to environmental stimuli. In Hare's lab, researchers use various microbiology, molecular biology and biochemistry techniques to examine the response of a model soil bacterium, Acinetobacter baylyi strain ADP1, to DNA damage. One project involves the UmuD protein, which typically functions in the SOS response pathway. In ADP1, this protein is larger than other UmuD homologs, is regulated differently than expected, and has novel functions, and we’re investigating how it does what it does. Another current project involves studying the other members of the genus Acinetobacter for their properties of DNA damage responses.
