Dr. Joanne J. Dobbins is a microbiologist with many research interests. Research publications include bacterial adhesion to prosthetic devices, microbial genetics, and airborne mold. She was one of three scientists, the sole female, on the original Artificial Heart Project. Currently she is collaborating with the Louisville Zoo in monitoring mold and bacterial populations in various exotic animal exhibits. One study, of the penguin exhibit, has continued for several years and included many students.
