2004-2008 BS in Chemical Biology, Tsinghua University 2008-2009 Research Assistant, Peking University 2009-2014 PhD in Chemistry, Columbia University 2015 Postdoc Researcher, Columbia University 2016-2018 Postdoc Researcher, Stanford University 2018- Assistant Professor, Peking University Dr. Zhixing Chen is a chemist with research experience spanning natural product synthesis, polymer mechano-chemistry, fluorescence and non-linear optical probes, bioconjugation, and live cell imaging. Zhixing believes in the enabling role of molecular technologies at the frontier of optical imaging, biotechnology, and life sciences. His current focus is to develop small and macro molecular tools for advanced imaging technologies. In the long term, Zhixing endeavors to unleash the synergy at the chemistry-biology-imaging interface in a collaborative manner, bringing new dimensions to the fields of molecular imaging and molecular medicine.

研究领域

As an emerging yet interdisciplinary field, bioimaging is revolutionizing biological and medical research. Trained as a general chemist, Dr. Chen has been approaching this field from a molecular aspect. Our lab endeavors to develop novel molecular tools by integrating the essence of chemical synthesis, spectroscopy, polymer, and chemical biology. The molecular tools would be applied as cutting-edge technologies to various fields including biophysics, cell biology, physiology, and finally inspire drug discovery. Our research philosophy features: 1. based on chemical principles, we customize tailored molecules as enabling solutions; 2. we leverage the platforms of IMM and CLS as unique opportunities to bring modern molecular tools to the frontiers of biological sciences and molecular medicine. We believe our training in chemistry and biotechnology, our cross-disciplinary experience, and our problem-solving mindset would broaden the career path of trainees.
