Our lab works at the interface of engineering, surface science, and biology to develop novel drug delivery systems for the targeted delivery of therapeutics in the lungs. We explore the complex physicochemical interactions between these therapeutic delivery systems and the various cells and fluids native to the lungs. We are also investigating the formation of exhaled bioaerosols in the lungs and new ways to suppress the transmission of airborne pathogens that are carried in these bioaerosols. Our collaborations span the UI campus, with ongoing projects with researchers in Pharmacy, Engineering, Medicine, Public Health and Chemistry.
