研究领域

My research interest is centered on the symbiotic interaction between organisms and how this biological process (whether mutualistic or parasitic) can influence the host community and the ecosystem in which it thrives. At present, I am investigating microorganims /plant interactions that influence plant establishment in an ecosystem in such a way that leads either to promoting plant invasiveness or driving indigenous rare plants to extinction. As a model case study I am working on various Rhizobial spp /wild legumes symbiotic association. My hypothesis is that invasive non-native legumes (such as Silk Mimosa and Kudzu) may form a symbiotic association with a wide range of Rhizobial species, which may contribute, to the invasiveness of these species. All the Rhizobial strains isolated from the wild native legumes are being analyzed for their phenotypic variation (based on colony growth characteristics in different environmental conditions and biochemical analysis). This information will be used in combination with the analysis of the genotypic variation amongst these rhizobial strains using Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) to amplify the 16S rDNA followed by Restriction Fragment Length Polymorphism (RFLP).
