个人简介

Dr. Bromfield earned a bachelors in Chemistry from the University of South Florida in Tampa, after which she earned a Master's degree in Chemistry specializing in Organic Synthesis from Florida Atlantic University. After working at a start-up synthetic company in Boca Raton, Dr. Bromfield obtained a doctorate in chemistry at North Carolina State University. Her doctoral research focused on the undergraduate lab development, with an emphasis on organic chemistry. She was a visiting assistant professor at Elon University in North Carolina and temporary assistant professor then lecturer at Kennesaw State University in Georgia. She then moved back south and joined Florida Southern College in August 2012. I enjoy cooking, baking, sewing, gardening and playing with my dogs. 1) Development of a green Synthesis of Stachybotrin D with Wei Pin Teh The synthesis of a novel compound showing anti-HIV activity, Stachybotrin D, is being developed and with green methodologies planned for the process. 2) Development of a Green Synthesis of Calerene Calerene has been shown antimicrobial properties, potential for use as an anesthetic, and is used as a precursor for many perfume fragrances. The synthesis of this molecule is already known, but students have worked on this molecule to make a greener synthesis. 3) Extraction methodology from Artichoke Leaves with Felicia Wong (2014 Alum) Compounds in artichokes have been shown to have antioxidant properties. This research looks at extraction methods to find optimal methods for full analysis. 4) Exploration of microemulsion mixtures to reduce degradation of penicillin G with Liana Derringer (2014 Alum). This project focuses on using NMR to determine the impact on microemulsion mixtures on the kinetics of hydrolysis of penicillin G. Chemical Education Projects 1) Development of Tangible Models for the Chemistry Lecture for Teaching Intermolecular Attractions with Grace Beggs Tangible models for learning are underutilized, and this project explores the impact of inexpensively built models for teaching chemistry topics. Using these models, instructors can give students physical exposure to a microscopic concept. 2) Development of tangible models for teaching organic chemistry topics.
