Ms. Bellanceau was born and raised in Portland, Maine, where she developed a sense of awe for the natural world. She completed her undergraduate education at Simmons College, a small women's college in Boston. There she completed her bachelor's degree in biology, with an emphasis on conservation biology. During her undergraduate career and for a year after graduating, she worked as an administrative assistant for epidemiologists at the Channing Laboratory, a research laboratory of Brigham and Women's Hospital and Harvard School of Public Health. There, she developed a passion for environmental health. She completed her master's degree in biology at the University of South Florida with an emphasis on ecology. During her graduate schooling, she was fortunate to teach undergraduate laboratories. She taught Introductory Biology, Biodiversity, and Human Anatomy and Physiology laboratories. This is where she developed her before unknown passion for teaching. Upon graduating, Ms. Bellanceau worked for the Museum of Science and Industry Education Department as the Coordinator of Group and Outreach Programs. She taught all age groups from elementary school to senior citizens. It was during this time that she developed a love for simple, hands-on activities. Since that time, and before coming to Florida Southern College, she taught various biology courses as a part-time instructor at Hillsborough Community College, the University of South Florida, and the University of Tampa. Currently, Ms. Bellanceau is pursuing a doctorate degree in Higher Education. Her time at these varied institutions provided her with experience teaching a wide range of students, which is important for every instructor.
