研究领域

I investigate environmental changes in the geologic and historic past, and the extent to which they have affected evolution and paleobiogeography, including changes in evolutionary rates, communities, and organismal morphology. The originations and extinctions of fossil taxa and their ecology/paleoecology are used to identify evolutionary, paleoceanographic, paleoclimatic and tectonic trends through time. Current research projects are listed below.

My students and I investigate environmental changes of the geological and historical past. The originations, extinctions and diversity of taxa, together with their ecology/paleoecology, are used to identify evolutionary, biogeographic, paleoceanographic, paleoclimatic and tectonic trends through time. Current research projects include the rise of the Isthmus of Panama, paleobiogeography of Caribbean deepsea benthic foraminifera, seagrass history and environmental changes in Florida Bay, the Gulf of Mexico oil spill, and degradation of coastal environments with human occupation (Panama) and sea-level change (SW Florida).
