个人简介

Dr. Christopher Nicholson, a Assistant Professor, has a Ph.D. in Chemistry from Notre Dame, where he focused on polyketides. He did his undergraduate work at Rose-Hulman Institute in Terre Haute, Ind., where he earned a B.S. in Chemistry. He teaches a variety of chemistry courses at UWF, where he joined the faculty in 2011. His current research interests include synthetic methodology development, impact of technology in the undergraduate teaching lab, and the impact of conformational analysis on substrate binding. Nicholson, who won three teaching awards at Notre Dame, lists development of new media teaching tools as one of his pursuits at UWF. Among his classroom activities at UWF he has developed a "flipped" classroom model for General Chemistry and conducted "synthesis projects" in Organic Chemistry lecture to enhance student learning." Nicholson has made poster presentations at American Chemical Society meetings on such topics as “quantitative analysis of alcohol using nuclear magnetic resonance” and “testing two conformational search methods of Aplyronine C.” Ph.D. Chemistry from the University of Notre Dame, 2010 B.S. Chemistry from Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, 2002

研究领域

We conduct research in new laboratory design for undergraduate chemical education. My research group have designed new experiments from General Chemistry up through senior-level Quantitative Analysis. We are particularly interested in applications of technology int he teaching lab including using the MeasureNet data collection system to study topics in the Organic Chemistry laboratory.
