Dr. Jeff Eble is a Research Assistant Professor and Research Coordinator for the Gulf Islands Research and Education Center, and he teaches undergraduate courses in Marine Science, Genetics, and related topics. Eble’s research investigates marine evolutionary processes with a focus on characterizing migration dynamics to support development of strategies that recognize and protect diversity below the species level. His projects include examining gene flow in marine fishes at spatial scales ranging from circumglobal to within estuaries across steep environmental gradients. His work has been published in Proceedings of the Royal Society of London, PLOS ONE, Journal of Biogeography, and Marine Ecology Progress Series. He recently published a book chapter reviewing reef fish phylogeography in Conservation of Fishes on Coral Reefs: The functioning of an ecosystem in a changing world. As Research Coordinator for the Gulf Islands Research and Education Center, Eble has coordinated the development of joint UWF/National Park Service research and educational programs, with an emphasis on empowering students and the public participation in scientific research and monitoring (Citizen Science). Eble has a Ph.D. in Zoology from the University of Hawaii at Manoa, and earned his Bachelor’s degree in Biology from the University of Hawaii at Hilo. His special interests include Project-based learning and Citizen Science.
