个人简介

Dr. Dale Orth joined Western in 2001. He chaired the department of Natural and Environmental Sciences from 2006 to 2015 and enjoys working with department faculty to improve instruction and opportunities for student learning. He also enjoys working with students on research projects. Recent examples include working with Dan Gerrity to develop a method for determining mercury in compact fluorescent lamps and Rosie Parr on measuring aluminum levels by fluorescence. While on sabbatical during the 2010-2011 academic year, Dale served in Senator Rockefeller's (D-WV) office as an American Chemical Society/AAAS Congressional Fellow. Dale advised Senator Rockefeller on many issues especially around education and science funding. While quite far from the scientific laboratory, the experience was a valuable reminder of the things one can do with a chemistry degree and a liberal arts background.
