研究领域

My interest is in cellular biology, focusing on how cells function and interact with their environment. This includes several varied projects in cell and microbial biology. A current one is a study of the role of M1-aminopeptidases in cell cycle control in yeast. Aminopeptidase functions or mutations have been linked to several cancers and other disorders in humans. The yeast system provides a student-friendly organism for studying cell cycle regulation. My studies have also included the interaction of CD147 and MCT1 proteins in rat brain endothelial cells. MCT-1 is a transporter whose function may play a crucial role in dealing with stroke or Alzheimer's disease. By using simple systems in the laboratory we can gather information relating to cellular functions in health and disease. My research linked to industry has included testing effectiveness of antimicrobial coatings and polymers generated through nanotechnology. Past work has included studies of small blood vessel remodeling and extracellular matrix composition in response to the hypertensive state in rats, and ethanol tolerance in yeast.
