Bioinformatics and biostatistics applied to clinical proteomics

Professor Vitek’s research interests are in statistical bioinformatics and computational biology. She develops statistical methods and algorithms for quantitative genomics, proteomics, metabolomics and ionomics. The methods optimize the design of investigations in these areas, and ensure accurate and objective interpretation of the resulting large and highly complex datasets. Members of the Vitek group make the methods available through open-source software and conduct short courses worldwide to train researchers in the life sciences in statistical practice. In 2011, Dr. Vitek received a National Science Foundation CAREER Award. Before joining Northeastern University, Professor Vitek was an associate professor of statistics and computer science at Purdue University, where she was appointed as a University Faculty Scholar and received awards for her research as well as her teaching and mentoring of graduate students. Earlier in her academic career, she held a postdoctoral position at the Institute for Systems Biology in Seattle.
