Professor Li has authored over 220 articles and 17 book chapters. He is the associate editor of top MRI journals Magnetic Resonance Medicine and Journal of Magnetic Resonance Imaging. He is past president of the International Society for Magnetic resonance in Medicine.

Special interests include MR imaging of coronary arteries and blood flow to the heart muscle, visualization of the artery wall for the detection and characterization of atherosclerotic plaque, and myocardial tissue characterization.
