个人简介

Bob Flowers was born in Easton, Pennsylvania in 1964. He received his B.S. in chemistry from East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania in 1986. After taking timeoff from school, he was admitted to Lehigh University in 1987 and received his Ph.D. inchemistry in 1991 working with John Larsen on single electron transfer reactions in coal. After graduating from Lehigh, he moved to Duke University as a postdoctoral researchassociate with Professor Ned Arnett where he worked on several projects

Lanthanide chemistry, single electron transfer, catalysis, and protein refolding.

The research in the Flowers group focuses on the mechanistic analysis of various metal-mediated reactions that go through single-electron transfer. The mechanistic studies employ a variety of techniques to investigate reaction kinetics, a few of which include stopped-flow spectrophotometry, reactIR, and NMR spectroscopy. This physical organic approach provides new information about new and old organometallic reactions utilized in chemical synthesis.
