个人简介

Shumei Yang received her B.S. in Chemistry from Zhenzhou University, China and her Ph.D. in physical chemistry from Iowa State University in 1991. She completed a two-year American Heart Association Post-doctoral Fellowship at University of Nevada School of Medicine in 1993, and joined University of California Riverside as a research associate. She had taught various chemistry courses at University of California Riverside and San Bernardino Valley College before she joined CSUSB. Dr. Yang joined the department in September 1998 as an assistant professor of physical biochemistry. Her teaching responsibilities involve the lecture and laboratory classes for the physical chemistry sequence biochemists (Chem 451-452), General Chemistry for chemistry and non-chemistry major (Chem 215-216), Biochemistry for nursing major (Chem 207) and introductory chemistry (Chem 205).

Shumei Yang has extensive research experience in both physical chemistry and biochemistry. Her current research involves two areas. The first focuses on the studies of the regulation of cAMP-dependent protein kinase by ultrafast spectroscopy. The second involves the studies on the protection mechanism of estrogen against the development of coronary artery disease. Dr. Yang is a member of the American Chemical Society, the ACS Medicinal Chemistry Division, and the Council on Undergraduate Research.
