个人简介

1984-1987 Ph.D. (Biology), University of Essex, Colchester, England 1982-1984 M.Sc. (Chemistry), Guelph-Waterloo Centre for Graduate Work in Chemistry, Waterloo, ON 1977-1982 B.Sc. (Chemistry), University of Waterloo Pat Covello trained in chemistry at the University of Waterloo (Ontario, Canada) and did graduate work on stress effects on photosynthesis at Waterloo and the University of Essex in the U.K. He then turned his attention to plant molecular biology with a postdoc in Mike Gray’s lab at Dalhousie University in Halifax, Canada. During that time he was a co-discoverer of RNA editing in plant mitochondria. In 1994, he took a position at the Plant Biotechnology Institute in Saskatoon (Canada) initially focusing on the biochemistry of fatty acid desaturases. In the last 12 years he has developed an interest in the biosynthesis of plant natural products especially alkaloids, isoprenoids and cyclic peptides. In recent work, his group has been very successful in isolating genes involved in the biosynthesis of the antimalarial compound artemisinin.
