RESEARCH INTERESTS:
Dr. Zhu’s research focuses on using time-of-flight secondary ion mass spectrometry (ToF-SIMS) and nanoscale secondary ion mass spectrometry (NanoSIMS) to resolve interesting scientific questions in biological, environmental and material fields. Especially, the phenomena at solid-liquid and gas-liquid interfaces are of great interest. In situ liquid SIMS enabled by ToF-SIMS and System for Analysis at the Liquid Vacuum Interface (SALVI) is a major tool to study solid-liquid and gas-liquid interfaces. In addition, nanoscale chemical imaging using NanoSIMS (elemental and isotopic imaging) and ToF-SIMS (elemental and molecular imaging) is a unique tool to resolve many challenging scientific questions. Moreover, SIMS has traditionally been used as a depth profiling tool. Depth profiling of novel materials is also an important research direction in my lab.
