研究领域

The overarching research topic in our group is the use of entropy and symmetry as tools to manipulate and insight macroscopic properties of functional hybrid organic-inorganic materials on an microscopic level. Properties of recent interest are (but not only) paralectric-to-ferroelectric phase transitions, mechanical properties, flexibility in metal-organic frameworks and photovoltaic materials. Since structure plays a crucial role, we constantly employ state-of-the art diffraction and scattering techniques such as high pressure and variable temperature X-ray diffraction and inelastic neutron scattering. On the basis of our results we constantly update our materials design principles, which then hopefully brings us closer to the philosophers stone of materials design – the design of materials with distinct physical properties.
