个人简介
Education:
BSc in Mechanical Engineering at Queen’s University, 1986,
MSc in Mechanical Engineering at Queen’s University, 1989
PhD Bioengineering at the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow, Scotland, 1993.
Post Doctoral Research at the Department of Physiology, Queen’s University, 1994
Employment Background:
Has worked in the medical industry in Sweden, Canada and the United States.
Joined the University of Guelph, School of Engineering in 1998.
Activities:
Conducts research in the areas of orthopaedic implant and tool design, cardiovascular biomechanics, water skiing biomechanics and canoe paddle mechanics.
Activities have been reported in the Toronto Star, CBC, Design Product News, Classic Boat and many local and regional publications.
Dr Runicman is also the advisor of the School’s Formula SAE racing team. This team of students, which was formed in 2002, builds and races a new car in the annual world FSAE championships held in Michigan each May.
Has been and continues to be active in committees at all levels. Current and recent internal school committees would include: Academic Review, Curriculum Committee, Director’s Council, Program Leader for Biological Engineering and Program Leader for Biomedical Engineering; at the university level he is faculty advisor for the University of Guelph Formula SAE Racing team; and at the national level he is currently the co-chair of the NSERC Collaborative Health Research Program selection committee and a judge for the Dyson Canada Design Award.
Industry, Organization and Professional Collaboration:
My research, design and professional collaboration has involved the following organizations:
Neovasc, Connelly Water Skis, Lighthouse Lake Water Sports Centre, Dyson Canada, Redtail Paddles, Canadian Canoe Museum, Maherajah Water Skis, Johnson and Johnson, Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital, Smiles Foundation, Niagara Prosthetics, Zimmer Orthopedics, Baxter, PEO, CCPE, NSERC and the Ontario Veterinary College.
