The technology required for cancer research has become increasingly more complex over the past several years. Accordingly, the development of innovative solutions to handle the large and complicated datasets these new technologies generate has become an essential part of the cancer research process. OICR’s Informatics and Bio-computing Program integrates and interprets these data, and develops visualization tools to turn this raw data into meaningful information for biologists, clinicians and trainees. The Ouellette group is involved in many aspects of this process, and in particular with respect to RNA-Seq data analysis, where we try to identify the best tools and methods for the functional genomic interpretation of this data. Ouellette is also the Scientific Coordinator of the Canadian Bioinformatics Workshop series that offers a number of short bioinformatics workshops throughout Canada, and throughout the year (see bioinformatics.ca for details).
