Current Research Interests The goal of our structural biology research in my laboratory is to understand how the proteins and enzymes work at the atomic level by determining their three-dimensional structures. Elucidation of protein structures is essential in revealing the structure-function relationship as well as in designing enzyme inhibitors as drug lead compounds and in discovering useful biocatalysts for industrial purposes. The main tools used in my laboratory are molecular biology/biochemistry and X-ray crystallography. Our current research interests include the following areas. 1. Structural proteomics on proteins from pathogenic microorganisms and human 2. Structure determination of highly thermostable proteins
