个人简介
Dr. Stelvio Bandiera completed an honours bachelor of science in chemistry and biology at the University of Waterloo. He received a master of science degree in biochemistry from Dalhousie University and a doctor of philosophy degree in chemistry and biochemistry from the University of Guelph. He then undertook postdoctoral studies at the Roche Institute of Molecular Biology in New Jersey. Dr. Bandiera joined the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences at UBC in 1986.
Teaching areas of interest include chemical and biochemical aspects of drug metabolism; medicinal chemistry, including structure-activity relationships of various classes of drugs; and biochemical aspects of toxicology.

Current research projects:
Hormonal regulation of cytochrome P450 expression in the testis.
Hyotchrome P450-catalyzed biotransformation of polychlorinated biphenyls and polybrominated diphenyl ethers.
Dr. Bandiera’s research focuses largely on hepatic drug metabolism and environmental toxicology. Current studies include:
The mechanisms by which hormones regulate expression of cytochrome P450 enzymes.
The effects of exposure to specific drugs and environmental chemicals on cytochrome P450-mediated activities and protein levels.
Analysis of structure-activity relationships for the various toxic effects of organochlorine compounds.
Analysis of cytochrome P450-mediated biotransformation of organochlorine compounds.
Hepatic metabolism of bile acids and the influence of hepatic bile acid levels on cytochrome P450 enzymes.
