Proteases are known to play a critical role in different physiological and pathological processes. There are different types of proteinases based on their characteristics mainly general specificity of substrates. Some of the proteases are well defined with respect to their substrates and specificities but many of them are still poorly characterized. Different proteomic approaches have been developed to address these issues complimented by Structural genomics approaches. We are interested in the ‘Characterization of the specificity and identification of putative substrates of these proteases by employing bacteriophage display of small peptides.' Presently we are working on determining the substrate specificities of Implantation Serine Proteinases (ISP1 and ISP2), novel serine proteinases characterized from the uterine endometrium and early stage embryos by Derrick Rancourt lab) and Human Kallikreins in collaboration with Prof. Eleftherios Diamandis, Mount Sinai Hospital, Toronto. We are looking forward to work with many more poorly characterized proteinases. Any queries for collaborating in this regard are welcome.
