研究领域
Dr. Sensen’s research interests are mainly in the areas of Bioinformatics and Genome Research. Over the years, he has been involved in several large-scale programs, which were funded mainly by Genome Canada, Genome Prairie/Alberta, the Alberta Livestock and Meat Agency and others.
Currently he is involved in several research programs in the area of renewable resources, where his laboratory is analyzing DNA sequences from high-throughput experiments to characterize the transcriptome of fungi, as well as plants. He is also involved in Metagenomics studies of the Albertan Oilsands.
In addition, the Sensen laboratory is studying the use of circulating nucleic acids (CNA), which were isolated from blood samples as markers for chronic diseases. Initially, the laboratory used this method to characterize animals infected with Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD). Now, the method is applied to other chronic diseases, including Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy (BSE).
