I am an analytical chemist with over 25 years’ industrial experience. After starting work as a laboratory technician in a Pharmaceutical company and a Contract Research establishment, I studied for a degree by day-release. After graduating in 1991, I decided to do something different and did a physicochemical PhD at the University of Portsmouth (sponsored by the MOD), working on the relationship of the surface properties of silicone elastomers to their performance as environmentally friendly marine antifouling coatings. After successfully completing my PhD and I decided that analytical work was my true love and went back to being an analytical/physical chemist in industry.
