个人简介
Throughout my PhD I have worked as member of the Extremes Research Group at Bangor University. This research group has a strong history of study in areas that include environmental physiology, exercise immunology and sports nutrition. My work has focused primarily on how Extreme Environments (e.g. altitude, heat, cold, dehydration, nutrient restriction and sleep loss) affect human performance and health. This research is also completed in the state-of-the-art research facilities available at Westminster University and the great outdoors. Indeed, I recently collaborated with a medical research expedition to the Himalayas. I have contributed to scientific research articles which have been published in high-impact journals in the field such as the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, which has helped me to appreciate the need for a rigorous and clear research and publication process and the importance of attention to detail.
Alongside other lecturing experiences in Nottingham and Bangor, I have also been employed as a Research Officer at Bangor University, where I co-ordinated an externally funded research project for the European Hydration Institute.
From 2015 I will be a Guest lecturer at Mid Sweden University in Härnösand and at Universita’ Cattolica del S. Cuore, Milan.
Recently, I was invited to speak in a highlighted symposium on Environmental and Occupational Physiology at the ACSM annual meeting. Having previously presented my research at ECSS, the experience consolidated my confidence in presenting to a wide audience and empowered me to stand up in front of world leaders.
I have provided physiological testing and training advice to several national athletes (Nottingham Forest) and scientific support for expeditions. I also contributed to TV like the BBC.
