Phosphoinositides control various cellular functions such as membrane trafficking and endocytosis and in doing so impact upon cell proliferation and apoptosis. These lipids are also present in the nucleus where their function is not completely understood. Their levels in the nucleus changes in response to external environmental inputs and some studies have implicated these changes in the regulation of nuclear functions such as transcription. We aim to understand how these lipids are regulated and what downstream functions are regulated by changes in their levels.
