Many organisms use circadian or daily clocks to fine tune their behavioural, physiological and metabolic processes. These organisms utilise the daily environmental light and temperature cycling to maintain the circadian rhythm. Circadian clocks have a complex relationship with temperature , as on one hand the clock is temperature compensated which means that their period under constant conditions is relatively temperature independent, while, on the other the daily rhythm can also change with temperature. I’m interested to study the mechanism underlying temperature compensation and temperature entrainment in animal clocks. Currently, I’m investigating the cis-regulatory sequence elements and trans factors responsible for temperature-driven transcription of core-clock gene, period, using the classical model organism, Drosophila melanogaster.
