His PhD investigated approaches to, and general views on, the use of quality assessment in systematic reviews of effectiveness in health promotion. He was recently the Principal Investigator of an NIHR Public Health Research programme-funded research project investigating the barriers and facilitators of effective teacher training to promote health in schools. The project was a collaboration between SHTAC, Primary Care and Population Sciences and Southampton Education School. He is also a co-investigator of a Leverhulme Trust funded research project investigating the long-term impact of initial teacher education to promote health and well-being. Jonathan is a Trial Steering Group member of the NIHR Public Health Research programme-funded randomised controlled trial ‘INCLUSIVE trial: Initiating change locally in bullying and aggression through the school environment’, co-ordinated by University College London. Jonathan also regularly peer-reviews for academic journals in health and has acted as an external examiner on PhDs in public health.
