个人简介

Dr Judith Holloway completed her doctorate with Professor Stephen Holgate at the University of Southampton in 1999 developing methods for the identification and isolation of dendritic cells from peripheral blood and their application to the study of high affinity IgE receptor (FcεRI) expression by dendritic cells in atopic asthma. Following this, Judith undertook postdoctoral studies of gestational immunology with Professor John Warner, investigating the development of the human immune system during pregnancy and the first year of life with emphasis on the role of dendritic cells in the immune system at this time and the increased prevalence of allergic disease. Judith has worked with Professor Donna Davies developing methodologies for the characterisation and isolation of fibrocytes from paediatric and adult blood, bronchial biopsies and bronchoalveolar lavage samples. During this time, in collaboration with Professor Davies and Professor Hywel Morgan (School of Electronics and Computer Science), Judith helped to develop a micro-flow cytometer (µFACS) capable of performing impedance measurements on human leukocytes giving a 3-part leukocyte discrimination system. In addition to analysis of blood using label-free technology, fluorescent events linked to cells and bioparticles can also be measured, and in the longer term will have the capability to sort cells and particles. In 2007 Judith was appointed Lecturer in Allergy and Programme Director of the MSc Allergy. Judith was awarded the Vice-Chancellor's Teaching Award in 2010 for her work on the MSc Allergy programme. She became a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy in 2012 and was promoted to Senior Lecturer in Allergy in 2013.

研究领域

Whilst the bedrock of Dr Holloway’s research has always been in the immunology of allergy, more recently she has developed her portfolio into translational research. This has led to commercially funded research and a successful award of £1.4 million from the Technology Strategy Board with Philips Research UK. This research, led by Professor Morgan (ECS) to develop a system for Point-of-Care (PoC) Diagnostics, contributes to school research strategy, is of international significance, collaborates across faculty and with industry and will be of direct benefit to patients. Judith interfaces between Philips and her engineering colleagues in ECS, and the clinical staff in FoM and SUHT. Projects include the development of telehealth methods for monitoring patients at home during the chemotherapy treatment cycle and a PoC testing device to give a full blood count and 3-part differential from a finger prick of blood.
