个人简介

Dr Dimitrov is an Associate Professor in Medical Statistics and was appointed as a Senior Lecturer at the University of Southampton in 2012. He qualified in Medicine [MD] from the Trakia University (Stara Zagora, Bulgaria) in 1991 and holds professional memberships with full licenses to practice to the General Medical Council (GMC) in UK and Bulgarian Medical Association. At graduation, he was appointed as an assistant professor in social medicine and health management (Faculty of Medicine, Stara Zagora, Bulgaria). In 1994 he was awarded a degree in pollution and environmental control from Victoria University of Manchester [MSc]. He was further affiliated as a doctoral fellow, assistant professor and public health specialist/consultant with the Faculty of Medicine, Medical College and Department of Marketing & Health Management at the University Hospital "St. George" (Medical University, Plovdiv, Bulgaria). During this period in Plovdiv, he completed his medical speciality of public health (social medicine and health management [SMHM]) and later was awarded a higher degree in public health (social medicine and organization of health care services and pharmacy [DM/PhD]). In 2000 he joined the Mario Negri Institute for Pharmacological Research (Italy) as a senior scientist in biostatistics and clinical epidemiology. Since 2008 he worked as a senior health outcomes manager at IMS Health (UK) and as a senior research fellow / programme manager & coordinator of the HRB Centre for Primary Care Research at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland. After four years of invaluable work to the HRB Centre, he has been appointed as a senior lecturer in medical statistics at the University of Southampton. He is fluent in English, Italian, French, Russian and Bulgarian (native) languages He has also served as a peer reviewer to a number of medical and clinical journals such as Clinical Pharmacology & Therapeutics, Pharmacoeconomics, JASN, Kidney International, Family Practice, Diabetic Medicine and Heart, among others. He is currently a member of UK Society for Social Medicine and the UK Society for Academic Primary Care. He also served on the Executive Boards of the National Society for Medical Geography and Bulgarian Chronobiology & Biometeorology Society (Bulgaria). He was awarded Cambridge IBC 2000 Outstanding Scientists of the 20th Century (1998), American Association for the Advancement of Science (2001), Gold Medal (Council of Science & Graduate Education of Republic of Bulgaria, 1989) and Second Prize (MSSSIP, Leningrad, USSR, 1989). He was also granted individually or participated at institutional levels in a number of public peer-reviewed funding and fellowships by the State Doctoral Programme (Bulgaria), SOROS Foundation (USA), NATO Advanced Study Institute (Italy), EU TEMPUS Joint European Project (Bulgaria-Netherlands-UK), European Association for Cancer Research, EUROPAEUM, International Epidemiological Association, Mario Negri International Exchange Programme (Italy), Associazione Italiana contro le Leucemie, Irish Heart Foundation Noel Hickey Bursary, EU FP6 and FP7 (TRANSFoRm Project) funding schemes.

He has extensive research experience in public health, biomedical and environmental sciences, mainly in health and medical statistics, epidemiology, clinical trials research and quality of life (oncology, nephrology, diabetology, neurology and respiratory medicine). His expertise is in biostatistics, research methodology, data analyses, modelling and forecasting. Having worked on a range of international collaborations at different phases of screening, disease management, drugs development, marketing and authorization, he has gained in-depth knowledge and broad skills in clinical epidemiology, study design, clinical statistics and content management (e.g., clinical prediction rules, time-series analyses, decision-tree approach, artificial neural networks, PROs and scores/scales development, clinical decision-making and information management consulting).
