Dr Norman Carr is Principal Clinical Teaching Fellow within Medicine at the University of Southampton. A cellular pathologist with a special interest in gastrointestinal diseases, he works in the NHS as an Honorary Consultant at University Hospital Southampton where he is a diagnostic and autopsy pathologist, and also at Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital where he provides specialist pathological services to the Peritoneal Malignancy Institute. He has previously worked in the USA (1992-1994) and Australia (2006-2009).

研究领域

Research activities have mainly been in the field of gastrointestinal pathology, although he has also contributed to the literature on medical education. Recent projects include: the correlation between endoscopic and microscopic diagnoses in gastritis; the histological response of inflamed colonic mucosa to a novel drug delivery system; the relationship between loneliness and proangiogenic cytokines in colorectal cancer; and BRAF mutation analysis in serrated colorectal polyps. In the field of education, recent projects include: a qualitative analysis of tutorial teaching in anatomy and pathology; analysis of alumni perceptions of the BM5 course; and the use of metadata in tracking the pathology curriculum in an integrated medical programme.
