个人简介
Susan Broomfield has been a study manager in Primary Care and Population Sciences since 2009. She obtained a BSc (Hons) in Applied Biology at Nottingham Trent University in 1980 and spent 4 years as a Research Technician in the Virology Division of Cambridge University. She obtained an MSc from the Open University in 2008.
Her introduction to health-based research came as an Administrator for WReN (Wessex Primary Care Research Network) and the East hub of PCRN-SW. In 2009 she took over the management of the DESCARTE Study.
She is currently managing CANDID (CANcer Diagnosis) Decision rules) a multi-centred study led by Professor Paul Little that is looking at which symptoms and examinations are best for predicting lung and bowel cancer. It is funded by the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) National School of Primary Care Research (SPCR). Up to 20,000 people with lung and bowel symptoms will be asked to take part in this research, half with lung and half with colorectal symptoms.
The data will be used to develop and validate Clinical Prediction Rules for each cohort. The incremental utility of incorporating additional measures (e.g. genetic, inflammatory and lifestyle information including smoking and alcohol status) in the prediction models will also be explored.
