I am a regular army doctor posted to Southampton as a respiratory consultant at University Hospital Southampton. I specialise in Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) and airways infections. I am also a member of the research and teaching faculty for the Chemical Biological Radiological and Nuclear (CBRN) clinical course at Winterborne Gunner in Wiltshire. My main focus within the NHS is in the provision of care for patients with COPD across both the primary and secondary care boundary and the provision of novel pathways to meet the new QIPP agenda and NICE quality standards. I have been elected to the BTS oxygen guidelines group and deliver projects for the Health Foundation and the Department of Health. In 2011 we have been shortlisted in the innovation category for the Health Service Journal Awards and in the respiratory category for the Nursing Times Awards. With my colleague Tom Wilkinson we run the Southampton COPD Research Group that specialises in the delivery of large COPD cohort studies focusing on the molecular microbiology, immunology and health reported outcomes.

I focus with my colleague Tom Wilkinson on projects related to Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease. The project areas are diverse from exacerbations and immunology to nutrition, activity and lifestyle and into pathway design and public health.
