个人简介

Dawn is a lecturer within the Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Southampton and a practicing podiatrist. She is the module leader for Foot and Ankle Musculoskeletal Pathology and has input across the three year undergraduate programme. Clinically she has a special interest in musculoskeletal podiatry and has held posts in the NHS and private sector reflecting this. Dawn spent eight years as a band 8 clinical specialist podiatrist, working in orthopaedics. Currently her clinical time is divided between running her own private practice (established in 1996) and providing podiatry services to Glenside Hospital for Neurological Rehabilitation; where her small team works closely with the wider multidisciplinary group to assist service users in meeting their rehabilitation goals. With a long-standing interest in the sociology of work and health professions, Dawn’s doctoral research was an exploratory study in specialisation. Dawn was awarded the Richard Newitt Postgraduate Research Studentship to undertake her research and completed her PhD in 2012. She has experience involving qualitative research methods, including concept analysis, key actor interviews, focus group interviews and content analysis.

研究领域

With a long-standing interest in the sociology of work and health professions, Dawn’s research has explored the evolution, change over time and current status of podiatric specialisation and specialists. Her doctoral research; an exploration in specialisation was followed by publication of her thesis; Podiatry and Diabetes: An Exploration in Specialisation. The recent proliferation of specialist posts within podiatry has been underpinned by sections of health policy but features diverse educational preparation for role. The advent, establishment and increase in specialisation have been under-debated within the health literature and under-considered within the podiatric profession. With its implications for work force design and changing professional roles, the research considers facets of activity within the changing healthcare policy and practice landscape.
