个人简介

Originally from New Zealand Jon obtained a first class honours degree (2006) and PhD (2009) at the University of Otago, New Zealand. PhD research focused on the development of Spin Crossover (SCO) active iron(II) complexes, which have potential application as new devices in the field of molecular electronics and nanotechnology, under the supervision of Prof. Sally Brooker. On completion of his thesis he remained in Prof. Brookers group as a PDRA before being awarded an IRCSET (Irish Research Council for Science Engineering and Technology) Empower postdoctoral fellowship in 2010 to work with Prof. Thorri Gunnlaugsson at Trinity College Dublin. This research centred on the synthesis of lanthanide containing self-assemblies for the development of novel luminescent materials, applicable for both light emitting devices and potential biological imaging agents.

研究领域

My research interests are broadly focused on supramolecular materials chemistry where coordination chemistry of d- and f- block metals is exploited in order to generate new functional devices including, sensors (colorimetric and fluorescent/luminescent), switchable materials for nanoelectronics (spin crossover systems) and light emitting devices based on organic and lanthanide containing chromophores. Of particular interest is the immobilisation of coordination complexes onto surfaces using Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) techniques. LB allows for the controlled deposition of mono- and multi-layers, a useful technique for preparing light emitting films and surface bound sensors.
