Dr Mark Carlile is a Senior Lecturer in Biopharmaceutical Sciences in the Department of Pharmacy, Health and Well-being. His research interests are focussed on non-coding RNA molecules and protein therapeutics.
研究领域
Non-coding RNA molecules
Noncoding RNAs (ncRNAs) are transcripts that generally have no protein-coding capacity. However, many ncRNAs have been found to play a major role in human physiology. The deregulation of RNA metabolism has been implicated in many human diseases, but the exact roles of ncRNAs are only beginning to be elucidated. An increasing number of research groups are investigating the biology of ncRNAs and their use as a novel source of biomarkers in many pathological states. My work here at Sunderland will focus on the roles of ncRNAs in developmental biology and tissue regeneration.
Protein Therapeutics
Recombinant protein therapeutics have changed the face of modern medicine in the past decade, and they continue to provide innovative and effective therapies for numerous pathologies. Today, they are used in the treatment of a variety of human diseases, ranging from cancers to infertility. My work here at Sunderland will focus on the identification, design and formulation of recombinant protein therapeutics; specifically monoclonal antibodies (mAb) and mAb-conjugates.
