Biography
Dr Jari Louhelainen is a Senior Lecturer in Molecular Biology at LJMU, as well as Associate Professor of Biochemistry at University of Helsinki, one of the world’s top universities. He has two major lines of research – mammalian/medical genetics and forensics.
In the past Dr. Louhelainen has worked for University of Oxford, Cancer Research UK, Karolinska Institute in Sweden and University of Helsinki in Finland. His research interests are gene expression systems, cDNA microarrays bioinformatics, genotyping and Single-Nucleotide Polymorphisms analysis, mutation analysis and DNA sequencing, human cell culture techniques, wildlife forensics and forensic/scientific photography. Jari Louhelainen has over 30 refereed publications, 2 edited books and one of which he has solely authored. He is a member of Royal Photographic Society Scientific and Medical Groups. He has also acted as an editor and editor-in-chief for scientific, peer-reviewed publications.
During 2014-2015 he has given more than 30 seminars all over the world and has appeared frequently at national TV channels including those of USA, UK, and most European countries. He has also been a guest in numerous TV-programmes, including BBC Crimewatch Roadshow, BBC Breakfast Show, CNN, Al-Jazeera, ITV and full-length TV documentaries. Recently his work has been featured in numerous newspapers and magazines all over the world, including many leading scientific magazines in Europe.
