研究领域
Delivery of vaccines and therapeutics into the skin
Human skin represents an ideal target for the delivery of therapeutics due to its accessibility and avoidance of first pass metabolism. In particular, the delivery of vaccines intradermally can take advantage of the diverse populations of immune cells present to allow for immunisation with reduced antigen doses compared to the practiced intramuscular injection route. The multiple subsets of human dermal dendritic cells and their roles in the uptake, processing and presentation of vaccine antigen to elicit immune responses alongside epidermal Langerhans cells are still under debate and so research in this area is vital to inform future vaccine design.
