I have obtained my doctorate in metabolomics by investigating plant-pathogen interactions using Brachypodium distachyon as model grass specie and rice blast fungus (Magnaporthe grisea) as a pathogen.

Working in the metabolomics group, I am interested in developing standardised protocols for metabolomics analysis using a variety of MS instruments. Techniques used in the High Resolution Metabolomics Laboratory include, high throughput metabolite fingerprinting using both nominal mass - and ultra-high resolution - Flow Infusion Electrospray Ionization - Mass Spectrometry (FIE-MS), accurate mass analysis using Fourier Transform Ion Cyclotron Resonance MS (FT-ICR-MS), High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC), Liquid Chromatography MS (LC-MS), Ultra High Performance Liquid Chromatography MS (UHPLC-MS), Gas Chromatography MS (GC-MS), and Triple Quadrupole MS (QQQ-MS). I am interested in the analysis of food/nutritional biomarkers from urine and plasma samples by metabolite fingerprinting technique combined with supervised multivariate data analysis methods (e.g. Principal Components Analysis, Linear Discriminant Analysis, Random Forest, etc) and by using accurate mass signal annotation tool (MZedDB), as well as quantification of these biomarkers using QQQ-MS to accurately monitor metabolic changes in response to both acute and habitual dietary exposure.
