Dr Peter J. McGoldrick is Professor of Retailing in the School of Materials at The University of Manchester. He chaired the CRIS (Consumer, Retail, Innovation & Service) Research Centre at Manchester Business School from 2007 to 2012 and founded/directed the Retail Research Forum, an industry-university collaboration of fifteen years standing. His research has attracted extensive peer-reviewed and industrial funding, including several grants from the ESRC, EPSRC, DTI, OFT, EU and other funding organisations.

Peter is involved in a wide range of projects within the spheres of retailing, shopper behaviour and e-commerce. Grants have included £30,000 from the Office of Fair Trading to study international retail price differences, £31,000 from the Economic and Social Research Council to study intertemporal price discrimination, £320,000 for a KTP to develop quality systems within the supply chain, and £70,000 from the Department of Trade and Industry to study package quantity perceptions. Funding has also been received from British Airways and Microsoft, plus £140,000 from the EPSRC, to study human factors in the design of E-commerce interfaces. Funding and support of over £500,000 was awarded by the ESRC and DTI to study Human Issues in Security and Privacy in E-Commerce, in collaboration with the Co-operative Bank, Office of the Information Commission and industrial partners. An award of over £150,000 was obtained from the EPSRC to study Human-Computer Relationships in e-commerce. The Retail Research Forum, founded and directed for fifteen years, has provided funding of £1.0 million to support over 25 projects of interest to leading retail companies. Work on shoppers' ethical and environmental motivations helped underpin the award of £25 million to Manchester University for the foundation of the Tesco Sustainable Consumption Institute. Current SCI work examines the Motivation of Pro-Environmental Behaviours, while Retail Forum studies investigate retailer/manufacturer roles in promotion of healthier eating patterns.
