Liz Barnes is a Senior Lecturer in Product Development at the University of Manchester, with expertise in the field of design management and fashion marketing. Most recently her research interests have focused on the concept of ‘fast fashion’ in relation to supply chain management, omnichannel retail, fashion marketing communications and the fashion retail environment. She is on the Editorial Advisory Board of the Journal of Fashion Marketing and Management and has been guest editor for two ‘fast fashion’ special editions of the journal.
Liz is the Assistant Vice Dean for Teaching & Learning in the Faculty of Engineering & Physical Sciences with responsibility for TEF, as well as an active lecturer in the School of Materials where she is also Manager of the Design & Fashion Business subject group.
Liz holds a number of external appointments: as a visiting lecturer in the School of Management at Cranfield University, as a DBA supervisor for the University of Gloucester, as an external exmainer at Nottingham Trent University and the University of the Arts (London College of Fashion) and as a PhD exmainer for Glasgow Caledonia University and Manchester Metropolitan University.
A UMIST graduate in BSc (Hons) Management & Marketing of Textiles, Liz then undertook a PhD in design management, graduating from the University of Manchester. After completing her PhD she spent some time working in the fashion and retail industry before returning to academia. Liz has held a number of senior posts at higher education institutions in the UK. She holds a PGCE in Higher Education from Manchester Metropolitan University and is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and an Associate of the Textile Institute.
