研究领域

Inorganic Chemistry/Materials Chemistry

Synthesis and characterization of inorganic solid state and nanomaterials for emerging technologies. The design, synthesis and characterization of new materials are vital components of developing new technologies. My group maintains a balance of exploratory and directed research projects, spanning both novel structures and nanomaterials. There are many examples of compounds discovered with exciting properties that have had a global impact and will continue to change the state of science and technology in many different fields. This group has several different projects that address the needs of technology and biology and have made advances in new compounds such as the discovery of magnetoresistance in magnetic Zintl phases, high zT in Zintl phases, the size and surface control of group 14 nanoparticles (Si and Ge), core/shell group 14 nanoparticles, magnetically doped group 14 nanoparticles, and Fe/Au core/shell nanoparticles. My interests are on problems that are at the interface of chemistry and physics, biochemistry, and/or engineering with a focus on the design and synthesis of new functional materials and compounds. The goal of our research is to gain a deeper understanding or structure-property relationships and to design and synthesize materials with desired functions.
