Research interests are in the field of two-dimensional (2D) materials, renewable energy harvesting/conversion/storage, and surface physics and chemistry. Significant contributions include: (i) design and development of several chemical and physical method to fabricate morphology-controllable nanocrystals and nanostructures which can be used in applications ranged from energy storage to photonics; (2) exploration of 2D functional materials for (electo)photocatalytic applications in hydrogen production and pollution elimination; (3) design and development of 2D quantum matters by using MBE, scanning tunneling microscopy, and angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy; and (4) development of smart functional liquid metal for superconducting and microelectronic applications.
